Mount Holly is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Union County, Arkansas, United States. Mount Holly is located at the junction of Arkansas highways 57 and 160, west-northwest of El Dorado. Mount Holly has a post office with ZIP code 71758. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 123. Education The Smackover-Norphlet School District (formerly the Smackover School District) operates public schools serving the community, including Smackover High School. It was previously served by the Mount Holly School District, which operated Mt. Holly Elementary School and Mount Holly High School. On July 1, 2004, the former Mt. Holly district was consolidated into the Smackover district. For a period the district continued operating Mt. Holly Elementary. Mount Holly Cotton Mill, also known as Alsace Manufacturing Co., is a historic cotton mill complex located at Mount Holly, Gaston County, North Carolina. The original section was built in 1875, and is a 3 story, rectangular brick mill building with Industrial Italianate detailing. A three-story addition was built in 1916, and a one-story, T-plan brick machine shop and boiler house was added in 1919. The complex was converted into a research unit in 1953, and in 1973 was sold to an independent mill operator who presently uses the building for a variety of industrial and commercial purposes. Mount Holly is a small suburban city in northeastern Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The city is situated just west of the Catawba River, north of Interstate 85, south of North Carolina State Highway 16, and west of Charlotte. Mount Holly Cemetery is a historic cemetery located in the Quapaw Quarter area of downtown Little Rock in the U.S. state of Arkansas, and is the burial place for numerous Arkansans of note. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and has been nicknamed "The Westminster Abbey of Arkansas". Major events "Tales of the Crypt" Every year in October several drama students from Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School are each given a person buried in the cemetery to research. They then prepare short monologues or dialogues, complete with period costumes, to be performed in front of the researched person's grave. Audiences are led through the cemetery from grave to grave by guides with candles. The event is called "Tales of the Crypt". Mount Holly (a.k.a. Dudley Plantation) was a historic Southern plantation in Foote, Mississippi. Built in 1855, it was visited by many prominent guests, including Confederate President Jefferson Davis. It was later acquired by ancestors of famed Civil War novelist Shelby Foote, who wrote a novel about it. It burned down on June 17, 2015.
